    Question

I recently purchased a Bolex P1 from a pawn shop. I only paid $15.00 for it so I took a chance that it would still function on some level. I shot a roll of Cinechrome 25 regular 8 and am very happy with the results. Most everything seems to work except it has problems operating a any speed above 18fps. It gets sluggish at about 24 and above. Anyone know something about this camera? Any suggestions where I might have it serviced? I really like the camera but wish the motor were a bit smoother on the higher speeds. Even though it is only regular8 all those functions offer lots of potential.

I cannot give you any firsthand experiences. However, if you use the google.com search engine, just type on Bolex Repair, several sources came up for repairs.

I would guess the camera needs lubrication and possibly an internal cleaning. If the camera is binding because of lack of lubrication, that can wear out the motor prematurely. It does have a motor versus spring, yes?
